Planning minister hails step as model of good governance

Egypt’s Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation Rania al Mashat Saturday said that applying the electronic voting mechanism in sports club elections reflects state’s commitment to enhancing transparency and governance as well as adopting the best international practices in modern management.

The move contributes to cementing the principles of effective participation and data-driven decision-making, Mashat said.

She added that introducing e-voting falls within the framework of state’s goals to bolster digital transformation and build more efficient and effective institutions.

Mashat made the remarks during a meeting with Ashraf Sobhy, the Minister of Youth and Sports, and Counselor Mohamed Khalil el Shennawy, the Head of the Administrative Prosecution Authority.

The meeting tackled developments of the electronic voting system, which was initially piloted by the prosecution authority, then expanded to youth centers and clubs affiliated with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, with El Zohour Sporting Club becoming the first club in Egypt to adopt the system.

During the meeting, Sobhy said that the digital transformation file in the sports sector is given a top priority by the political leadership.

He added that applying e-voting in club elections represents a significant step toward enhancing integrity and transparency and simplifying procedures for members, in accordance with state’s strategy for digital transformation and developing services provided to citizens.
