The Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership organised a dialogue session entitled “The values and principles of media and its international impact” on Monday.
The third batch of the fellowship, entitled “Non-Aligned Youth and South-South Co-operation”, is organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi during May 31 to June 17 in Cairo.
TV presenter Nashat al-Daihi managed the dialogue session which hosted Eyad Abul-Haggag, Board Chairman of the Dar Al-Tahrir for Printing and Publishing; Ahmed Galal, Board Chairman of the Akhbar Al-Youm Foundation; Ali Hassan, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of the Middle East News Agency (MENA).
Abul-Haggag said referred to the gains achieved by the national youth conferences as it helped strengthening the Egyptians’ awareness of the challenged facing the country.
The Egyptian state has adopted the policy of openness and frankness in providing all the state’s information to the Egyptians as partners in governance and decision-making.
“Young people should preserve the gains and achievements made on the ground and increase their awareness in order to have a hand in their countries’ fate,” Abul-Haggag said.
“The discussion dwelt on good ways to improve the media performance across the continent,” Fredrick Justine, from Tanzania who participates in the fellowship, told The Egyptian Gazette.
“Some ideas are recommended I wish my country officials work on it,” he added.
“Media plays a great role in changing society as it provides information with no bias to individuals to make their own decisions.
It helps the society in publishing reports, agendas, and threats also used on reporting political, social, and economic decisions, as well as shedding light to public opinion.” Justine added.
For his part, Hassan praised efforts made by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in supporting young people. He also appreciated the perfect organisation of the fellowship.
Egypt’s young people are half of the present and all the future, and Egypt throughout its long history is proud of its youth.
MENA chairman said that the Egyptian state pays great attention to the world’s youth through organising youth fora such as the World Youth Forum in Sharm el-Sheikh and many others. Such fora help the young people contribute positively in their countries.
Hassan added that the battle of awareness is very crucial since it aims at changing mindset, identity, values.
He called on media outlets to confront rumors and respond to lies with much focus on preserving the national identity as there is an overflow of fake news globally, recommending the young people to follow the information from its official sources.
Meanwhile, Galal of Akhbar Al-Youm welcomed the participants, pointing out that youth are the future and hope.
“We must build our future ourselves because the circumstances that occur around us in the world change the shape and map of the world, and therefore these circumstances must be the beginning of raising awareness among citizens and youth particularly in the light of the importance of forming awareness and confronting rumors,” Akhbar Al-Youm chairman said.
He hailed the programmes of the Ministry of Youth and Sports in introducing the Egyptian youth to the challenges facing the Egyptian state, as well as distinguishing between the rumours and the facts and news through showing rumors’ impact on the individual and society.
