CAIRO – The judicial committee supervising elections of the Egyptian Journalists Syndicate (EJS) Council announced on Saturday that Diaa Rashwan was re-elected as EJS Chairman in the mid-term elections that was held on Friday.
Rashwan won with 1,965 votes out of 3,844 eligible votes; the second-highest scoring candidate, Refaat Rashad, obtained 1,506 votes, according to the committee.
Six candidates vied for the post of the Syndicate head; Diaa Rashwan, Refaat Rashad, Karem Yehia and Mohamed el Maghrabi, Talaat Hashem and Sayyed el Eskandrani.
Also, six journalists won seats on the 12-member board of the EJS; Ayman Abdel Majeed won with 1,864 votes, Doaa el Naggar with 1,078 votes, Mohamed Saaed Abdel Hafiz with 1,045 votes, Mohamed Kharaga with 1,338 votes, Hussein el-Zinati with 1,201 votes and Ibrahim Abo Wakila with 1,277 votes.
