Egypt’s Dar Al-Ifta announced on Thursday that the crescent moon marking the start of Shawwal for the year 1447 AH has been sighted.
In an official statement, the authority said its Sharia and scientific committees across the country observed the crescent after sunset on the 29th of Ramadan, corresponding to March 19, 2026. The verified sighting confirms that Friday, March 20, 2026, will be the first day of Shawwal and the start of Eid Al-Fitr.
On the occasion, Dar Al-Ifta extended its congratulations to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the Egyptian people, and leaders and citizens of Arab and Islamic nations, wishing continued prosperity, blessings, security, and peace for all.
