Egypt’s Damietta Port recently welcomed a vessel from China carrying five new giant quay cranes for the Tahya Misr 1 container terminal. This delivery is part of a broader plan to equip the terminal with cutting-edge operating systems.
According to Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel Al-Wazir, these new cranes complete the terminal’s preparations, bringing the total number of giant cranes to 12, following the arrival of seven earlier.
These cranes are expected to enhance the port’s capabilities. They can lift up to 75 tonnes and reach a height of 57.5 metres from the quayside, allowing them to efficiently handle massive vessels carrying up to 11 containers high. With an outer boom length of 72 metres, these cranes can manage the widest container ships, greatly improving Damietta Port’s ability to accommodate the latest global container vessels.
