Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces Mohamed Farid accompanied by Chief of Staff of the Sudanese Armed Forces Muhammad Othman Al-Hussein attended the main phase of the joint drill dubbed “Guardians of the Nile”, which began in Sudan last week, with the participation of land, air, sea, air defense and special forces from both countries.
The main stage began with Egyptian and Sudanese paratroopers executing a jump and multi-role combat aircraft carrying out inspection and aerial bombardment against hostile target. They showed high degree of harmony between the elements of the Special Forces in carrying out the tasks with high accuracy and efficiency.
In addition, the multi-purpose helicopters carried out joint landing operations by the special forces of both countries on hostile targets and carried out a search and rescue operation securing the landing area of the plane.
The main stage was concluded with the discovery of a hostile air target, which was dealt with and hit by modern and advanced air defense systems.
At the same time, naval forces of both countries carried out several maritime activities by the special forces, including atypical shots and raids on vital targets.
Chief of Staff Farid praised the combat readiness of the participating forces, and conveyed appreciation of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Defence Minister General Mohamed Zaki to Sudan’s political and military leadership.
For his part, Sudan’s Armed Forces Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Muhammad Othman Al-Hussein praised the outstanding level of participating forces, affirming the depth of Egyptian-Sudanese relations.
The Egyptian and Sudanese chiefs of staff also held a bilateral meeting in which they discussed a number of issues of joint military cooperation during the coming period as well as military and security challenges and threats.
The closing ceremony was attended by a number of senior commanders of the Egyptian and Sudanese armed forces.
