CAIRO- Senate Deputy Speaker Phoebe Fawzy said the incoming global climate conference (COP27), Egypt will host on Sunday in the Red Sea resort of Sharm El Sheikh, will go down in history as a milestone on the road to addressing climate change challenges and a climate-safe world.

Speaking to MENA on Saturday, Fawzy added that the iconic Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh had been attracting unprecedented world-wide attention, as it will play host to world leaders who will participate in the global climate event, during which Egypt will speak for the countries of Global South that seek to achieve climate justice.

The senior diplomat hailed Egypt’s strong preparations for the global climate event under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and with contributions from a wide spectrum of NGOs, despite the exceptionally difficult circumstances the world is witnessing due to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the continuing impact of COVID-19, and US-China great power competition.

President Sisi announced 2022 Year of Civil Society.

The 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 27) to the UNFCCC will kick off tomorrow Sunday in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh.

The conference includes three main events, starting with the opening ceremony at 10 a.m. on Sunday, followed by the World Leaders Summit on Monday, before kicking off the high-level segment on October November 15, according to a statement COP 27 press committee on Saturday.

The incoming Egyptian COP27 Presidency has identified a range of topics focused on enhancing implementation and raising ambition on broad range of issues related to climate change. The summit will run from 6 to 18 of November.
