The Ministry of Labour on Sunday organised a special event to announce the institutionalisation of regional labour market observatories and their official integration under the umbrella of the Labour Market Coordination Observatory, that was established within the Ministry’s structure.

The event was organized in co-operation with the German Agency for International Co-operation (GIZ-Egypt).

The move aims at further bolstering information system at the labour market as well as the partnership with the private sector, a press release has read.

Minister of Labour Mohamed Gebran attended the event, and with the participation of Annette Klein, Germany’s Deputy Ambassador in Cairo, together, in addition to some heads of investor associations, business associations, representatives of concerned ministries and international organisations.

Addressing the event, Minister Gebran called on all partners, from ministries, government agencies and the private sector to integrate the outputs of the Coordination Observatory into their strategies and plans, and benefit from them in shaping public policies in education, training, employment and productivity improvement.

The Ministry of Labour will continue to follow up the implementation and development of the work of the Observatory on regular basis, in order to keep pace with continuous changes, and enhance the capabilities of building a regulated, flexible and comprehensive labour market, Gebran added.

Mwanwhile,, Gebran reiterated his call for all to work with a team spirit to render this ambitious experiment a success, as it is one key to the future of the Egyptian labour market.

.The Coordination Observatory aims to institutionalise the work of the regional observatories and the culmination of their work, which started in 2014 by the Employment Support Project implemented by the Germany’s GIZ on behalf of the German government, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education.

This has led to establishing five regional labour market observatories in the cities of 6th of October, Sadat, Alexandria, Aswan and 10thof Ramadan.

A participatory model has been developed bringing together representatives of relevant ministries, investor and business associations, and academic institutions.

The regional observatories aim to collect and analyse labour market data at the governorate level to support evidence-based educational and employment policies and link them to the local labour market, in addition to providing data to contribute to monitoring the performance indicators of Egypt Vision 2030.
