Egyptian State Minister for Military Production Mohamed Ahmed Morsy and Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawi attended Thursday the signing of a joint contract involving the two ministries and Passengers Transport General Authority in Alexandria to purchase 40 locally-made electric buses with global quality criteria and specifications.

Alexandria Governor Mohamed el Sherif was present during the signing ceremony.

Morsy said the ministry will produce the first ever electric bus through the Military Factory 200 in co-operation with MCV transport industry company.

The bus will transport guests who will come to Egypt to attend the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Climate Change Convention (UNFCCC COP27), slated for November in the Egyptian Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh, he added.

The minister said climate change issue tops all challenges facing the world at present.

The move comes in implementation of directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi about localising and strengthening the manufacture of electric vehicles in Egypt, in addition to upping integration and co-operation with the private sector in all industrial fields.

In turn, Shaarawi said the contract is completing a joint contract, which has recently been signed involving the two ministries and the authority in Alexandria to buy 70 electric buses with investments, estimated at about 323 million Egyptian pounds.
