The Egyptian Local Development Ministry said Sunday that all commodities are available on the markets at suitable prices.
Governors regularly visit the markets to make sure no hikes occur, said spokesman for the Local Development Ministry Dr Khaled Qassem.
The governors are acting in line with directives by Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawy with the aim to limit any increase in prices and counter any irresponsible behavior by traders, Qassem said in statements to Extra News channel.
Shaarawy had, during a recent visit to the Obour Market, discussed with traders mechanisms to control prices, the spokesman told Extra News.
The government has been keen on maintaining fixed prices of diesel oil to guarantee unchanged transport costs, Qassem said.
The traders had promised Minister Shaarawy that prices of vegetables and fruits would decline during the rest of the fasting month of Ramadan, the spokesman assured.
