Co-ordinator of the National Dialogue Diaa Rashwan lauded President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s decision to form a committee to look into the relocation of the Sayeda Nafissa and Imam Shafei cemeteries as the government is to develop the two areas.

In press statements yesterday, Rashwan said this issue was raised by public opinion and has therefore received much attention.

This issue was tabled more than once for discussion at the National Dialogue in live sessions and on electronic media, Rashwan added.

President Sisi’s decision was made in consideration for prominent figures in Egyptian history, Presidential Spokesman Councillor Ahmed Fahmy said in recent remarks.

The committee will be chaired by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and include members from all the bodies concerned and archaeologists to study alternatives and make recommendations to be announced before July, Fahmy added.

President Sisi also called for a ‘cemetery of the immortals’ for the remains of prominent personalities of Egypt, the spokesman said.
