The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) issued new polymer plastic banknotes at the new printing house in the New Administrative Capital (NAC).
The CBE said that it issued a polymer version of the LE10 banknote, affirming that citizens can still use traditional paper money currently in circulation in all of their financial transactions.
The polymer banknote is safer due to inclusion of additional security features that make it harder for counterfeiting, the CBE said in a statement Tuesday.
The newly-issued banknote is also considered environmentally-friendly, lasting far longer than paper money and are water-resistant, added the statement.
The statement, meanwhile said that Al-Fattah Al-Alim Mosque, a mosque at the NAC that depicts a distinctive Islamic architectural style, is printed on the new LE10 banknote.
