Canada’s CN Tower lit up in Egypt flag colours

The Ontario government has designated July each year to celebrate the Month of Egyptian Civilisation and Heritage, in appreciation of the efforts and contributions of Egyptian Canadians to Canadian society.

The celebrations of the occasion, which began Friday evening, witnessed the lighting of the “CN Tower”, Canada’s most recognisable and celebrated icon, in the colours of the Egyptian flag, in addition to live performances by two young Egyptian-Canadian musicians: Natalie and Essam, who presented live performances of flute and drum (tabla).

Minister Makram said that this event, organised by the Canadian Authority for Egyptian Heritage, confirms the strong relations between the Egyptian and Canadian peoples. The celebration of Heritage Month, held under the auspices of Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, stresses the role of Egyptian soft power, which represents a great force in strengthening relations between the Egyptians and other peoples in the world.

The minister of immigration said that “Egyptians in Canada are the ambassadors of Egypt as they introduce our history and civilisation”.

She added that there are successful Egyptian symbols in all fields that can act as Egyptian soft powers, by sending a message to the Canadian society that confirms that Egypt has offered many things to the humanity in all fields.

The celebration of the month of Egyptian civilisation began in Canada in July 2019 after MP Sherif el-Sabaawy, member of the Parliament of Ontario, with the support of the Egyptian community in Canada, submitted a bill to the Canadian parliament.

The bill was discussed and voted upon to become a valid law, and part of the constitution, so that the district celebrates annually in July the great Egyptian civilisation and heritage.
