CAIRO — An Egyptian medical convoy specialising in treating hearing impairments and fitting hearing aids has arrived in Djibouti, continuing the implementation of presidential directives following President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s visit to the East African nation in April 2025.
The convoy conducted medical examinations and installed hearing aids for patients of various age groups at Peltier General Hospital in Djibouti, according to a press release by the foreign ministry in Tuesday. The Egyptian medical team fitted around 60 new patients with hearing devices and reviewed the performance of 120 previously installed aids from the initiative’s first phase in May 2025.
Egypt’s Ambassador to Djibouti Abdel Rahman Raafat expressed his pride in the convoy’s arrival, highlighting the significant role of President Sisi’s humanitarian initiatives in strengthening ties between Egypt and Djibouti. He noted that the convoy’s work was widely appreciated at both the political and popular levels for its immediate impact on children and people with hearing loss.
Raafat added that witnessing patients hear for the first time had a deeply emotional effect on families and medical staff alike, describing the mission as a powerful example of Egypt’s commitment to humanitarian support in Africa.
The ambassador reaffirmed Egypt’s determination to continue sending additional medical missions to Djibouti in the coming period, reflecting its ongoing commitment to assist and develop Djibouti’s health sector.
Meanwhile, the director-general of Peltier Hospital expressed gratitude on behalf of the Djiboutian government and people, praising the professionalism and social impact of the Egyptian medical team. He extended thanks to President Sisi and the Egyptian government for their continued efforts to support healthcare services in Djibouti.
