Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to collaborating with the World Health Organisation (WHO) on all issues related to population health, both domestically and internationally.
The minister’s remarks were made during a meeting with Nima Abid, the WHO Representative in Egypt, held at the ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital. The discussions centered on strengthening the ongoing partnership between the Egyptian government and the WHO to enhance health response efforts and alleviate the burden on vulnerable populations.
Abdel Ghaffar commended the WHO’s consistent support for the Egyptian health sector and its effective role in regional crisis response, including strengthening hospital capacities for emergency health needs.
According to Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the ministry’s official spokesperson, key areas of current cooperation were reviewed during the meeting, including supporting health emergency capabilities, developing urgent response plans, providing medical supplies, and training health personnel in emergency care and mass casualty management. The discussions also covered combating infectious and non-communicable diseases.
Further cooperation points included strengthening early warning systems, epidemiological surveillance, community outreach, and leveraging digital data platforms for rapid decision-making. The provision of health services to refugees and displaced persons was also addressed.
Both parties reiterated their commitment to continued joint coordination and follow-up on priority health projects to enhance the Egyptian health system’s ability to effectively respond to crises and emergencies.
Nima Abid expressed the WHO’s appreciation for the constructive cooperation with the Egyptian government, highlighting Egypt’s dedication to improving citizen health and developing medical services.
