Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel-Aati and Cairo University President Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadek, on Tuesday, followed up ongoing preparations for the upcoming “Africa Day” celebrations.
The meeting was part of ongoing engagement with academic and intellectual institutions to support the priorities of the country’s foreign policy
The event, scheduled for May, will be hosted by Cairo University for the first time under the auspices of the Foreign Ministry.
During the meeting, Minister Abdel-Aati lauded the university’s pivotal role in supporting Egypt-Africa relations, particularly through offering scholarships to students from around the continent.
These efforts contribute to building human capacities and strengthening cultural and scientific ties between Egypt and African countries, he said.
The minister highlighted the university’s role in training African human resources and transferring knowledge and expertise in support of sustainable development and continental integration.
Preparations for the “Africa Day” celebrations, include logistical and thematic aspects, to ensure the event reflects Egypt’s stature and leading role on the African continent.
The celebration is expected to have broad participation by African ambassadors, students studying in Egypt, as well as representatives of academic and cultural institutions.
Minister Abdel-Aati underscored the importance of leveraging the event to enhance people-to-people communication and offer opportunities for cooperation across various fields, thereby supporting continental integration and strengthening a shared African identity. He reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting efforts to promote peace, security, and stability across Africa.
For his part, the Cairo University president affirmed the institution’s commitment to continuing to train African cadres.
He also stressed the university’s keenness to ensure the success of the celebration in a manner that reflects the depth of Egypt-Africa ties, highlighting readiness to provide all necessary organisational and academic support to enhance Egypt’s academic and cultural role on the continent.
