Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, Patrick Pouyanné, on Monday, discussed means of boosting co-operation in Egypt’s energy sector.

The discussions took place on the sidelines of the 9th edition of Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES 2026), March 30- April 1, under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

During the talks, Pouyanné lauded Egypt’s partnership with TotalEnergies, highlighting the company’s role in supporting oil and gas exploration and production in the country.

Expanding co-operation aligns with Egypt’s efforts to increase production and improve the efficiency of existing energy fields, he added.

Madbouli reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening ties with international partners as part of its strategy to position Egypt as a regional hub for energy trading and distribution.

He also pointed to plans to diversify energy sources, expand renewable energy projects, and advance green hydrogen and electricity interconnection initiatives.

Discussions also covered the progress of TotalEnergies’ projects in Egypt and ways to accelerate development in key areas, Cabinet spokesperson Mohamed El-Homosany.

These efforts aim to boost natural gas production to meet rising domestic demand and increase export capacity, he added.

The meeting further addressed regional co-operation in the Eastern Mediterranean gas sector, including the potential transport and processing of gas from Cyprus through Egyptian infrastructure, which would reinforce Egypt’s role as a regional energy hub.

For his part, Badawi expressed hope for continued coordination with TotalEnergies to implement the proposals discussed.
