Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received on Wednesday Italy’s Minister of Defence Guido Crosetto, and Chief of Defense Staff, Giuseppe Dragoni. Egypt’s Minister of Defence and Military Production General Mohamed Zaki, and Italian Ambassador in Cairo Michel Quaroni attended the meeting.
The two sides reiterated mutual keenness on continuing efforts to bolster the historical and close ties between the two countries, as w pushing frameworks of bilateral cooperation at the various levels over the coming period, particularly security and military, Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said.
The Italian Minister of Defense praised Egypt’s crucial role in preserving stability in the Middle East and Mediterranean regions, Fahmi added.
The two sides also discussed the phenomenon of illegal immigration, and stressed importance of exerting concerted efforts to advance mechanisms to face cross-border challenges. The Italian side highly appreciated the active role played by Egypt in this regard, Spokesman Fahmy noted.
In addition, the two sides agreed to carry on with work to boost military co-operation.
Referring to developments on the regional and international scenes, especially in Libya and Sudan, the two sides exchanged views on the importance of seeking political solutions to the various crises in the region in order to maintain countries’ unity and territorial integrity and realise the aspirations of peoples in restoring security and stability, and moving ahead towards development and prosperity, the Presidency Spokesman said.
