Industry Min.: Fertilisers represent third of sector exports

Egypt’s Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem affirmed on Sunday that Egypt possesses a strong manufacturing base in the fertiliser industry, which represents about one-third of exports by the chemical and fertiliser sector.

He stressed that stable energy supplies, despite recent geopolitical crises, have ensured continued production and strengthened Egyptian exports to global markets.

Hashem made the remarks during a tour of the Damietta Public Free Zone, accompanied by Damietta Governor Hossam El-Din Fawzy and senior ministry officials, to inspect major factories in targeted industries.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptians Abroad Badr Abdel-Aaty has reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity and national institutions, rejecting any attempts to divide the country or establish parallel entities.

Abdel-Aaty also stressed the importance of reaching a purely Sudanese-owned political settlement that safeguards the Sudanese people’s resources and fulfils their aspirations for security and stability.

The minister made the remarks during a meeting on Sunday with Sudanese Finance and Economic Planning Minister Jibril Ibrahim, which addressed ways to strengthen the historic and fraternal relations between Egypt and Sudan, particularly in the financial and economic fields.

Egypt leads Arab wheat production in 2026, FAO estimates show

The Cabinet Media Centre said on Sunday that Egypt is expected to lead Arab countries in wheat production in 2026, according to Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) estimates, with output projected at 10.2 million tonnes.

The figures coincide with the conclusion of the wheat procurement season and reflect continued growth in domestic production, driven by expanded cultivated areas, higher productivity and the development and wider distribution of high-yielding, climate-resilient varieties, helping reduce reliance on imports.

Iran: New sanctions threatened by US to fail

Iran’s foreign minister dismissed the threat of new US sanctions as a sign of desperation on Sunday and said the expected new measures would fail to defeat Tehran.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, ‌who is due to hold a press conference at 2 pm EDT (18:00 GMT) on Monday, has threatened to impose “the toughest sanctions in history” on Iran.

US memorandum best path out of stalled war

Iran’s president on Sunday defended a memorandum of understanding with the United States as the best way out of a stalled war while the new head of the Islamic Republic’s top security body took a more defiant stance, warning of retaliation if neighbours join US threats to further sanction Tehran.

Landslide in Guinea kills 22

A mountainous heap of refuse collapsed at the largest landfill in Guinea’s capital, Conakry, early Sunday killing at least 22 people, according to a provisional toll by the country’s civil protection service.

Heavy rains, which started around 3am, washed over the refuse at Dar Es Salam, triggering a landslide that buried nearby shacks.

A search and rescue operation was underway to find survivours.
