Egypt’s Minister of Justice, Counselor Mahmoud Helmy El Sherif, has highlighted the deep-rooted historical ties between Egypt and France, describing their legal and judicial partnership as a longstanding pillar of bilateral relations.
He stressed the importance of expanding judicial co-operation in line with the two countries’ strategic partnership.
The minister made the remarks during a meeting with French Ambassador to Egypt Éric Chevallier on Monday.
The two sides reviewed ongoing judicial co-operation, praising recent coordination that led to the successful execution of several mutual legal assistance requests in criminal matters and extradition cases in co-operation with the French Ministry of Justice and investigating judges at the Paris Judicial Court.
They said the progress reflects the effectiveness of bilateral efforts to combat organised crime and terrorism.
The meeting also explored future co-operation in modernising judicial systems, including collaboration with Expertise France on the rule of law, governance and digital transformation, as well as coordination with France’s Higher Council of Notaries to enhance Egypt’s notarial and real estate registration services.
The minister highlighted the ministry’s ongoing efforts, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, to modernise the justice system through digital transformation and technological innovation.
For his part, Ambassador Chevallier commended the progress achieved by Egypt’s justice sector and reaffirmed France’s commitment to expanding technical and judicial co-operation.
