NICOSIA – Minister of State for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs Soha Gendy has asserted Egypt’s keenness to strengthen cooperation with the Cypriot labor ministry as regards the file of Egyptian nationals working in Cyprus as well as providing more seasonal and permanent job opportunities in various fields for the Egyptian youth.
Gendy made the remarks during a session of talks she held with Cypriot Minister of Labor and Social Insurance Yiannis Panayiotou in the presence of officials from the Cypriot ministries of labor and foreign affairs.
The Egyptian minister is currently on a visit to Cyprus to take part in the World Conference of Cyprus Diaspora.
The two sides discussed bilateral coordination on migration and work, as well as exchanging relevant information and expertise.
During the meeting, Gendy called on the Cypriot side to guarantee protection of the rights of Egyptian workers, reviewing in this regard some of the challenges facing them.
She also called for developing a mechanism for direct contact between both sides with a view to working to solve any problem experienced by Egyptian workers. The proposal was approved by the Cypriot side.
