Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdel-Aati, discussed avenues for strengthening the strategic partnership between Cairo and Moscow during a meeting on Friday with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk.
The meeting, held as part of Abdel-Aati’s official visit to Moscow, underscored the importance of advancing bilateral co-operation frameworks across various sectors in a manner that reflects the depth of historical ties and serves the shared interests of both countries.
Minister Abdel-Aati praised the growing momentum in bilateral relations, particularly in light of ongoing major strategic projects, foremost among them the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant and the Russian Industrial Zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone).
He also highlighted co-operation in key sectors including wheat and grain supplies, tourism, oil and gas, as well as cultural and educational exchanges.
Abdel-Aati expressed appreciation for Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk’s September 2025 visit to Cairo. He reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to building on that visit’s outcomes by accelerating joint projects—most notably the start of operations in the Russian Industrial Zone within the SCZone.
Abdel-Aati voiced hope that joint working group meetings would further encourage Russian investment, particularly in technical studies and infrastructure to localise key industries.
On trade, Minister Abdel-Aati commended the robust partnership in wheat and grain imports and proposed exploring Russian participation in a new Egyptian grain logistics hub. Finally, noting a steady rise in Russian visitors, he emphasized the need for more direct flights and closer coordination to maximize tourism potential.
