CAIRO – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s deep appreciation for its long-standing relations with Russia during a meeting with Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of Russia’s Security Council.
Abdelatty said Egypt attaches great importance to advancing bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.
The talks, held as part of efforts to bolster the historical relations between the two countries, focused on enhancing coordination on regional and international issues of shared concern.
Foreign ministry spokesman Tamim Khallaf said discussions covered ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between both countries under their signed Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement.
The two sides reviewed progress on key joint projects, including the Dabaa nuclear power plant and the Russian Industrial Zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, which are seen as cornerstones of industrial and investment cooperation. Abdelatty expressed hope that the industrial zone would soon begin operations and urged Russian companies to expand their investments in Egypt.
He also welcomed the growing momentum in bilateral relations, citing the successful conclusion of the 15th session of the Joint Committee for Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.
Turning to regional issues, the top diplomat briefed Shoigu on Egypt’s ongoing efforts to sustain the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and to move toward the second phase of the truce agreement, encompassing political, humanitarian and development dimensions. He emphasized Egypt’s commitment to alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and accelerating reconstruction, noting preparations for the upcoming Cairo International Conference on Gaza’s Early Recovery and Reconstruction.
The meeting also addressed the Ukraine crisis, with Abdelatty reiterating Egypt’s call for a peaceful and diplomatic resolution that ensures regional and global stability and spares nations further suffering.
The talks concluded with both sides affirming their commitment to continued coordination on international and regional issues, particularly efforts to support stability, security and development in the Middle East in the interests of the Egyptian and Russian peoples.
