Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi paid an official visit to Uganda on Wednesday at the invitation of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, where the two leaders held productive bilateral discussions aimed at strengthening the longstanding relations between Egypt and Uganda and enhancing co-operation on regional and continental priorities.
President Sisi was accompanied by Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdel-Aati, and Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Hani Sewilam.
During the visit, President Sisi congratulated President Museveni on his re-election and reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to deepening strategic cooperation with Uganda.
The two leaders directed their institutions to implement the outcomes of President Museveni’s visit to Egypt in August 2025 and to build on existing agreements and communiqués for the mutual benefit of both countries.
They also pledged closer coordination in promoting African interests internationally, including support for reform of the UN Security Council in line with the Ezulwini Consensus and reform of international financial institutions.
The presidents reaffirmed their commitment to Agenda 2063 and the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals through co-operation within regional and international frameworks, including COMESA, the African Continental Free Trade Area, the African Union and the United Nations.
They welcomed the growth in bilateral trade and investment, particularly in agro-processing, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, integrated water resources management and infrastructure development.
The two sides also endorsed the outcomes of the “Invest in Uganda” Forum held in Cairo in April 2026 and agreed to organise a Uganda-Egypt Business Forum during the next Joint Permanent Commission in Kampala in August 2026, while accelerating the establishment of a Joint Business Council.
On regional peace and security, the leaders exchanged views on developments in Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia and eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, reaffirming support for African-led peace initiatives, dialogue, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The two Presidents also reaffirmed their commitment to sustainable Nile Basin cooperation, integrated water resources management and climate-resilient infrastructure.
Egypt further expressed readiness to support and mobilise financing for water-related infrastructure projects in Uganda through the Nile Development Fund.
President Sisi also renewed his invitation to President Museveni to attend the African Union Mid-Year Coordination Meeting and the African Business Forum in El Alamein on 27 June 2026.
