President reviews Egypt’s efforts to secure ceasefire in Gaza

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met with General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, to discuss deepening military co-operation and addressing pressing regional and global challenges.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Defense and Military Production, General Abdel Meguid Saqr, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Egypt, Aamer Shouket, and Brigadier General Muhammad Rashid Khan, Senior Staff Officer at Pakistan’s Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.

According to Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, General Mirza conveyed a message of goodwill from Pakistan’s Prime Minister. The President commended the positive momentum and continued development of relations between Egypt and Pakistan, highlighting the strength of the strategic partnership between the two nations.

The discussions focused on expanding bilateral cooperation, particularly in defense and security, and enhancing coordination in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism. Both sides expressed shared interest in increasing military collaboration and the exchange of strategic expertise.

The meeting also touched on regional developments, including the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza. President Sisi reviewed Egypt’s efforts to secure a ceasefire and emphasised the need for the international community to assume its responsibilities by ensuring sustained humanitarian aid to civilians in the Gaza Strip. He also stressed the importance of broader international recognition of an independent Palestinian state as a fundamental guarantee for lasting peace and stability in the region.

Additionally, the talks included a review of the situation in South Asia and efforts to reinforce peace and development across the region. Both sides underscored the importance of regional cooperation to achieve prosperity and long-term security for their respective peoples.
