EGYPT and Qatar have agreed to reactivate bilateral co-operation frameworks and follow-up mechanisms in an effort to settle outstanding issues.
Agreement to this effect was reached during talks between Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri and his Qatari counterpart Mohamed ben Abdul-Rahamn al Thani in Doha Monday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez said in a statement.
The two ministers expressed satisfaction over the positive developments that relations between the two countries have witnessed since the signing of al-Ula Declaration in Saudi Arabia on January 5, 2021, spokesman Hafez said.
Minister Shoukri flew in to Doha on Sunday evening to hold talks with his Qatari counterpart. The two ministers held a bilateral session yesterday following a meeting with the participation of delegations from the two sides, the Foreign Ministry spokesman said.
During talks and discussions, the two ministers agreed on the importance of moving ahead with the adoption of such measures and procedures as may be necessary to build on what has been achieved, spokesman Hafez said, adding that agreement was also reached during the Doha talks pushing co-operation forward in the sectors of priority in a way that realises the interests of the two brotherly countries and their peoples.
Other matters put for consideration in the Egyptian-Qatari talks included the challenges that Arab countries and the regional surrounding are facing; hence the necessity of intensifying coordination and consultation and consolidating joint Arab action mechanisms with a view to realizing the aspirations of Arab peoples for enhancing security and stability and advancing the pace of development.
Also considered during the talks was the issue of the consultative meeting that Arab foreign ministers are scheduled to convene in Doha tomorrow.
The meeting has been called by the Arab League to look into key Arab issues and consider ways of dealing with foreign interventions that are harmful to national Arab security, the Foreign Ministry spokesman said.
Minister Shoukri’s talks in Doha, he added, stressed the importance of emphasising Arab solidarity with Egypt and the Sudan during a planned extraordinary session of the Arab League’s ministerial council on the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam issue, spokesman Hafez said.
The Doha talks, the Foreign Ministry spokesman added, featured a discussion of the visions and positions of Egypt and Bahrian regarding major issues of mutual concern at both regional and international levels
