Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati and Tanzania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Co-operation Mahmoud Thabit Kombo have discussed ways to further consolidate bilateral ties.
Meeting on the sidelines of the Korea-Africa Ministerial Meeting on Monday, the chief diplomats also exchanged views on issues of mutual interest.
Abdel-Aati praised the growing momentum in bilateral relations, reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to expanding economic, investment, trade, and development co-operation in support of the shared interests of both countries and Tanzania’s national development agenda.
The two ministers commended the significant progress in bilateral economic and development ties over the recent years.
They highlighted the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project, implemented by Egyptian companies in Tanzania, as a successful model of strategic partnership and development integration between the two countries, describing it as a landmark achievement in bilateral relations.
For his part, Kombo praised the expertise of Egyptian companies operating in Tanzania and their contribution to the implementation of major national and development projects.
On water security, Abdel-Aati stressed the importance of co-operation and integration among Nile Basin countries to advance shared interests and mutual benefits.
He underlined the need to preserve the spirit of consensus in efforts to restore inclusivity within the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI), reiterating Egypt’s rejection of unilateral measures.
The minister also welcomed recent positive developments in the NBI consultative process aimed at restoring inclusivity in accordance with international law and in a manner that serves the common interests of all Nile Basin states.
