Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk and New Valley Governor Major General Mohamed al-Zamlout held a meeting with a delegation of Chinese business people to discuss agricultural investment in Egypt.

They explored the establishment of an agricultural investment project in the New Valley Governorate through “China Railway,” one of China’s major companies, with the aim of expanding the production of key crop seeds, including potatoes, wheat, and soybeans.

Minister Farouk described ties binding Egypt and China as firm and deeply rooted, referring to joint co-operation projects in various sectors, including agriculture. He also highlighted efforts the Egyptian government is making to improve the investment climate, encourage investors, and engage the private sector in development activities.

Farouk noted that the Ministry of Agriculture will provide all necessary technical support to the Chinese side through experts and researchers from the Agricultural Research Centre, working to overcome any obstacles to ensure the success of this collaboration. He pointed out that the project planned for the New Valley Governorate would serve as the foundation for larger investment projects executed by a coalition of Chinese businessmen in Egypt.

For his part, the governor of the New Valley affirmed that the governorate offers full support and facilitation to investors, noting that the New Valley is one of the promising regions for investment, with numerous resources and opportunities.

A memorandum of co-operation would be drafted between the Ministry of Agriculture, the New Valley Governorate, and the Chinese company, outlining all areas of collaboration and the mechanisms for executing the project.
