Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation el-Sayed el-Qoseir and Chinese Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Tang Renjian and his delegation met for co-operation talks.
El-Qoseir reviewed the major achievements in agriculture of the last nine years towards food security.
He also hailed China’s role in supporting the global food security in Africa and co-ordination between the ministry’s work team and the Chinese embassy in Cairo to increase agricultural trade exchange and open the Chinese market to Egyptian produce.
Both sides are keen to exchange scholarships and training, el-Qoseir said.
Egypt has been proactive in meeting global challenges with land reclamation to increase productivity, he said, noting projects in desalination, irrigation canal lining, fish farms, and animal and poultry schemes to achieve food security, increase investment in agricultural sector, and apply modern technology.
Egypt welcomes Chinese investments, which have significantly increased over the past 10 years, Quseir noted, pointing out that China is the sixth largest investor in Egyptian market.
More than 140 Chinese companies are operating in Egyp and more than half are industrial and agriculture.
