Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis wednesday.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry.
Gerapetritis conveyed to President Sisi the greetingsof Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and stressed Athena’s keenness to enhance bilateral with Egypt in all fields.
President Sisi highly appreciated this and emphasised the importance of the strategic relations between the two countries. The President also commended the continued bilateral coordination and co-operation on various issues, at both the bilateral level, and through the tripartite cooperation mechanism with Cyprus, Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said.
The meeting also discussed the tense regional situation, withPresident Sisi warning of the risksofthe military escalation in the region, on multiple fronts, Fahmy added.
The president also stressed the necessity of defusing the current tense situation in the region, through an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, to allow the entry of humanitarian aid to the Strip to alleviate the humanitarian disaster there. He also reiterated that Egypt willcontinue its relentless efforts to provide support and relief to Gazans, and in the meantime work hard towardscalming the situation, Spokesman Fahmy said.
For his part, the Greek foreign minister voiced agreement with the Egyptian stance, and stressed that the current crisis asserted anew Egypt’s pivotal role as an indispensable pillar of stability in the Middle East, Spokesman Fahmy noted.
The two sides agreed on the necessity of pushing seriously and quickly towards finding a just and comprehensive settlement for the Palestinian cause, which the central issue in the region, and the way to help bring about, security and stability.
