President Sisi, Jordan’s King Abdullah II hold talks
Leaders reaffirm de-escalation in region, reducing tensions, maintaining stability
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Jordan’s King Abdullah II have stressed the necessity of fully implementing the Gaza ceasefire agreement, US President Donald Trump’s peace plan, and the unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid into the Strip, as well as the swift launch of early recovery and reconstruction efforts in the coastal enclave.
The two leaders held talks in Cairo on Sunday during which they reiterated firm and principled rejection of any attempts to forcibly displace the Palestinian people from their land.
The talks touched on the developments in the West Bank, as the two leaders stressed rejection of all violations and arbitrary practices against the Palestinian people.
President Sisi and King Abdullah II also stressed that establishing an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, no remains the only viable path for achieving lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.
Earlier, President Sisi received the Jordanian monarch at the Cairo International Airport, accompanying him to Cairo’s Presidential Ittihadiya Palace, where the king received official reception.
The two leaders held bilateral talks, followed by expanded discussions with their respective delegations, as well as a luncheon hosted by President Sisi in honour of King Abdullah II and his accompanying delegation, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed el-Shennawy said.
The discussions reflected the deep-rooted longstanding fraternal ties between Egypt and Jordan, with both leaders asserting the importance of further advancing bilateral ties in a manner that serves the shared interests of their peoples.
King Abdullah II appreciated Egypt’s pivotal regional role and reaffirmed keenness on consolidating co-operation and the close political consultation with Cairo, el-Shennawy said.
In addition, the Egyptian-Jordanian talks addressed regional developments, and stressed the necessity of de-escalation, concluding peaceful resolutions for crises, and full respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.
The two leaders also agreed to intensify coordination and joint action to support regional stability.
Meanwhile, President Sisi and Abdullah II voiced satisfaction with the progress achieved across various fields, and reaffirmed commitment to further promoting ties, including through preparations for the upcoming session of the Egyptian-Jordanian Joint Higher Committee.
Following the talks, President Sisi saw King Abdullah II off at the Cairo International Airport.
