Egypt’s Ministry of Civil Aviation has stepped up efforts to enhance security, operational efficiency and passenger services at Cairo International Airport. The step is part of a broader strategy to modernise the country’s aviation sector and accommodate rising air traffic.
The Higher Committee for Security and Environmental Inspection has carried out the visit as part of routine oversight of airport operations, reviewing compliance with security measures and recent upgrades.

The tour was led by Sameh Fawzi, head of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, and included representatives from several government bodies.
The visit comes in line with directives from Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh el-Hefny to maintain continuous oversight of security, health, and environmental conditions at local airports.
It is also part of the ministry’s plan to boost airport safety systems and ensure compliance with recommendations issued by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
During the tour, inspectors checked baggage handling systems (BHS) in passenger terminals, where older machines have been replaced with newer models to improve detection and speed up processing.

They also reviewed cargo screening procedures and a biometric access control system for airport staff, which has been introduced across entry points and terminals.
In the field of health and emergency preparedness, the committee examined the installation of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in terminal buildings. They reviewed staff training programmes on their use, reflecting the airport’s readiness to respond to medical emergencies in line with the highest safety standards.
Officials also examined passenger services, including updated information displays, expanded check-in counters, and the redistribution of self-service kiosks to ease congestion as air traffic increases.
Committee members further inspected a number of passenger service enhancements, as part of efforts to improve the overall travel experience and passenger comfort.

At the conclusion of the visit, the delegation toured the Airport Operations Control Centre (AOCC) and electronic passport gates.
The committee said the extensive development works at Cairo International Airport reflect the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s vision to modernise airport operations, improve efficiency and elevate service quality in line with sustained growth in travel and aviation activity.
