Cabinet okays economic, social development plan for FY 2023-2024

CAIRO – The Egyptian Cabinet approved the economic and social development plan of Fiscal Year 2023-2024.

The plan aims at achieving the goals of human development, which is the main pillar of economic growth and social progress, said Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El Said.

The minister said, according to MENA, that the features of the new plan focus on projects whose implementation rate exceeded 70 per cent and the importance of providing investments necessary for their fulfillment.

She stressed the importance of supporting the “Decent Life” presidential initiative that aims at developing Egypt’s rural areas taking into consideration bridging the development gaps while carrying out investment projects in impoverished villages.

On education, the minister said the education sector will witness 1,051 projects taking into consideration the population growth and growing development needs.

About the health sector, the minister said 657 projects are set to be carried out to develop hospitals and ambulance services.

On the youth file, the minister said “that sector will include 339 projects aiming at expanding youth and sports services in all governorates.”

The minister spoke about other important sectors such as agriculture, irrigation, internal trade, industry and communications.

She said the plan aims at improving Egypt’s position in the global indices on food and water security.

On the internal trade sector, the minister said the plan targets increasing the efficiency of food outlets and storage capacities of basic commodities.

With regard to the communication sector, minister Said pointed out that Egypt achieved in 2022 progress in the international competitiveness indexes especially as regards the government industrial intelligence domain.

The minister said that Egypt also achieved major progress in the fields of housing and electricity generation to improve services offered to citizens.
