The Egyptian Cabinet Media Centre said on Wednesday said that Egyptian women have attained unprecedented gains in the new republic as the Egyptian state was keen to launch strategies, initiatives and programs to empower women economically, politically and socially and involve them as an active and pioneering contributors to the development process.
In a report, the centre added that Egyptian women live their golden age under the new republic in light of the state efforts to achieve equality and citizenship rights.
The report stressed the importance of protecting the gains of women through a legislative framework supporting their rights and promoting their ability to face any challenges.
The report reviewed the national strategic axes to empower Egyptian women including political empowerment and their role in the development process.
It pointed out to the rise of women representation in elections to reach 50 per cent in 2030 compared to 44 per cent in 2014 and their representation in parliament to reach 35 per cent in 2030 against 27 per cent in 2022.
It added that the women representation in the judicial authority increased to reach 3,115 judges in 2022 from 2,130 in 2014.
The strategic axes included empowering women economically with achieving equal chances in the employment process and ending any discrimination against them, said the cabinet report .
It added that women representation in the Senate also increased to reach 13.7 per cent in 2022 .
It pointed out that the share of number of micro, small and medium enterprises for women increased to reach 45 percent at total costs of EGP 11.1 billion which provided over 837,000 job opportunities in seven years.
According to the report, the female school dropout decreased to 2 per cent in 2021/2020 from 4 per cent in 2015/2014, a matter that led to a decline in illiteracy among women.
As for health, the report said women benefitted from the state health program as over 32 million women were examined as part of a presidential initiative to support women health.
