The media centre of the Egyptian cabinet denied on Thursday that the government presented a bill on amending the law of the unified tax measures to enable the Egyptian Tax Authority to inspect the bank accounts of citizens.
The Ministry of Finance said the proposed legislative amendment does not expose the secrecy of the bank accounts of the Egyptians or the companies or institutions working in Egypt, the media center said in a statement on Thursday.
The CBE would not accept, under any circumstances, allowing the finance ministry to access bank accounts belonging to corporations or individuals, adding that the CBE will protect the confidentiality of customer bank accounts.
The media centre urged different media means to verify the authenticity of any reports before publishing them.
