Minister of Higher Education Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and Education Minister Tarek Shawky have recently met their Somali counterpart Abdullah Abu Kar Haj Minister of Education, Culture and Higher Education to discuss aspects of co-operation between the two countries in education.
During the meeting, both sides agreed on the importance of renewing the executive programme between both countries and increasing Egyptian scholarship for Somali students from 200 to 450.
Shawqi affirmed the depth of Egyptian-Somali ties, lauding the visit of the official Somali delegation to Egypt and saying that he looked forward to further co-operation between Egypt and Somalia in education.
Shawqi also reviewed efforts by the Egyptian education ministry to improve the education in Egypt, adding that the ministry is ready to co-operate since the introduction of a new education system.
For his part, Abdel Ghaffar asserted the importance of boosting ties between both countries, welcoming co-operation in the scientific and education fields.
Abdel Ghaffar shed light on the ‘Study in Egypt’ initiative which allows education opportunities for the students of Somalia to study at Egyptian universities.
The meeting also tackled means of exchanging expertise between both countries in the field of technological and NGO universities.
Haji lauded Egypt’s efforts supporting the interests between both countries in the scientific and educational fields.
