Cairo and Khartoum are seeking to promote co-operation in various fields over the coming period with the aim of boosting bilateral trade for the best interests of the people in Egypt and the Suadn, Minister of Finance Mohamed Maeet has said.
Maeet stressed that the two countries share common history and destiny, and unified strategic objectives.
The minister made his remarks during a meeting on Sunday with head of the Sudanese Customs Authority, Bashir Al-Taher, and an accompanying delegation.
Head of the Egyptian Customs Authority, el-Shahat Ghatori, and Finance Minister’s Adviser for External Relations, Hossam Hussein, attended. During the meeting, Maeet voiced Egypt’s readiness to provide the Sudanese authority with all its needs of training and qualified human resources there.
He expounded the Egyptian expertise in modernising the customs system through a new law, establishing a logistics centre, and applying Advanced Cargo Information (ACI), which aims to simplify and speed up procedures for releasing goods. This will contribute to verifying exporters and importers, all through a single window online portal.
For his part, the head of the Sudanese Customs Authority voiced happiness over concluding an agreement with the Egyptian side for training and qualification human resources at home.
Meanwhile, the two sides agreed on the necessity of regularly convening a joint customs committee, bi-annually.
Ghatori, for his part, expressed pleasure over co-operating with the Sudanese side, noting that 87 x-ray devices had been installed at the Egyptian harbours to check on small-sized luggage. He said that 85 per cent of Egyptian crossings will be provided with x-rays.
He also pointed out that the Egyptian Customs Authority is ready to provide training for Sudanese through the National Institute for Customs Training, in Alexandria and Cairo, applying the latest technological systems in the field.
