The 54th edition of Cairo International Book Fair will kick off on Wednesday, 25 January and run until February 6.
This year’s guest of honour will be Jordan. Egyptian poet Salah Jaheen (1930-1986) will be the personality of the year, and Egyptian writer Kamel Kilani (1897-1959), who pioneered children’s literature across the Arab world, will be personality of the year at the children’s exhibition.
More than1,000 publishers representing 53 countries will be taking part in the book fair this year.
The fair administrators launched an electronic app with information about services and events.
The fair will be open from 10am to 8pm, except on Fridays and Saturdays, when it will close at 9pm.
Minister of Culture Nevine el-Kilani will in a press conference today announce further details about the exhibition, a ministry statement said.
From 1984, the fair was held at the Cairo International Fair Zone in Nasr City until 2019, when it was moved to the more spacious International Exhibition Centre in New Cairo.
Inaugurated in 1969 and organised by the General Egyptian Book Organisation, the Cairo International Book Fair is one of the largest in the world and the oldest in the Arab world, bringing hundreds of book sellers locally and worldwide.
