WASHINGTON – US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken stressed the importance of the Strategic Dialogue between Egypt and the United States in facing many challenges.
During a joint press conference with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry here on Monday, Blinken said the Strategic Dialogue between the two countries will cover many issues, such as regional security as being the cornerstone of stability.
Egyptian-US relations are now expanding in many areas of cooperation, he pointed out.
Blinken said that the Egyptian mediation efforts were essential for achieving stability in Gaza and halting the attacks. He highlighted Egypt’s important role in mobilizing funds to help the Gaza Strip.
On Libya, the US Secretary of State said Egypt has also played a key role in the political process in Libya, noting that Egypt and the United States worked together to address economic issues. It was agreed on the importance of cooperation among all parties, he said.
He pointed out that Egypt and the US share many concerns in the region pertaining to eliminating terrorism as well as protecting citizens, including US nationals in the region.
As for Sudan, Blinken said that the US is trying to restore stability and democratic order in Sudan through the presence of a transitional government, noting that this is the best way to help the Sudanese people achieve their strategic goal of attaining democracy.
He expressed hope that the state of emergency in Sudan would be lifted and the country return once again to the civilian transition process.
He also voiced hope for more partnership with Egypt in the field of energy and renewable energy, welcoming Egypt’s hosting of the coming session of the global climate conference.
He stressed the importance of capacity building for various institutions in Egypt as well as working to increase investments, noting that the goal through these efforts is to achieve growth and prosperity in Egypt.
He expressed hope that cooperation between the two countries would continue, explaining that Egypt is the largest strategic partner of the United States.
