US President Joe Biden expressed deep appreciation of the extensive and sustained mediation efforts made by Egypt to reach a ceasefire deal in the war-ravaged Gaza Strip.
Biden’s remarks came during a phone call that he made on Friday with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, as they discussed the latest developments in the Israeli-besieged Palestinian enclave.
The two leaders agreed on the necessity of intensifying international efforts to break the deadlock in the negotiations between the two parties to the conflict, which in turn would contribute to ending the prolonged humanitarian crisis faced by the residents of the Gaza Strip.
Sisi and Biden probed the difficult humanitarian situation in the strip, as they agreed to deliver quantities of humanitarian aid and fuel via the Karm Abu Salem border crossing temporarily until reaching a legal mechanism for re-opening the Palestinian side of Rafah border crossing.
They also emphasized the need for uniting various endeavors to implement the two-state solution, as per international legitimacy resolutions.
The pair reiterated their rejection of the attempts to drive Palestinians from their land, while voicing their support for all means aimed at preventing the escalation and widening of the conflict.
