Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and Minister of State for Information Diaa Rashwan discussed on Sunday mechanisms for implementing President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives, issued during the inauguration of the state’s Strategic Command Headquarters in the New Administrative Capital on Saturday.
Madbouli highlighted the president’s call to foster objective media dialogue that embraces diverse viewpoints to enrich public debate and raise awareness. He also stressed the importance of coordination between the Ministry of State for Information and media institutions to organise an annual conference under the president’s patronage to review the state of Egyptian media.
The prime minister reaffirmed the state’s commitment to keeping the public informed, particularly amid ongoing challenges and the spread of misinformation.
He pointed to the weekly press conferences held after cabinet meetings, which explain government decisions and enable ministers to outline measures aimed at improving public services. He added that ministers and senior officials are regularly instructed to engage with media outlets to explain government policies and respond to public concerns.
For his part, Rashwan said the president’s directives would be translated into practical mechanisms through coordination with media institutions.
He outlined current priorities, including proposals to establish sustainable funding mechanisms for public service media outside the state budget, as well as measures to support both public and private media organisations. He noted that the government had already responded positively to several of these proposals.
Rashwan also said the performance of media offices across ministries is being assessed to strengthen their role in communicating with the public, stressing the need for greater engagement with media outlets. He confirmed ongoing coordination with the relevant ministries to accelerate the issuance of a Freedom of Information law.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Madbouli asked Rashwan to present to the cabinet his vision for the media sector, including an assessment of ministerial media offices and a clear action plan for the coming period.
