Bolstering co-operation with the European Union (EU) in fields of scientific research was the focus of an official meeting in Cairo on Monday.
Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour and Maria Cristina Russo, Director for Global Approach and International Partnerships at the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission, and European Union (EU) Ambassador in Cairo Christian Berger attended the meeting.
The minister spoke of the paramount importance of boosting ties with the EU in the science, technology and innovation, which is necessary for supporting his ministry’s vision and work plan.
Ashour also reviewed the future vision of the higher education and scientific research in Egypt, 2023-2032, which is in tandem with work on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Egypt Vision 2030.
The two sides discussed boosting bilateral co-operation in various fields from health to digitisation, climate change and the environment, with focus on consolidating Egypt’s role in the Mediterranean and Africa.
