Egypt’s Civil Aviation Minister Mohammed Abbas Helmy on Monday said Berenice International Airport is ready for receiving international tourist flights coming to the Red Sea governorate.
The airport will facilitate linking Cairo to southern cities, specially Halayeb and Shalateen, alongside boosting tourism movement in remote Red Sea cities like Marsa Alam, he added.
The minister was addressing a press conference held on the sidelines of a consultation meeting on the environmental impact of the setting up of an eco-friendly passenger terminal at Hurghada International Airport.
Berenice International Airport, which lies in southern Marsa Alam in the Red Sea governorate, accommodates 600 passengers per hour and is open to all civil airlines across the globe wishing to operate flights from and to it, the minister added.
The EGP 2.3-billion worth airport is located 150 km from Marsa Alam and has a runway which is 3,650 meters long and 45 meters wide.
It includes a 58-meter-high control tower and 47 technical, administrative and service buildings, minister Helmy added.
