CAIRO – Azhar University President Mohamed El Mahrasawy asserted the depth of cultural and historic ties binding Al-Azhar with Indonesia.
He was speaking at a meeting with Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University President Hajjah Amany Burhanuddin Umar where they discussed means of boosting scientific cooperation between the two entities.
In a statement released by Al Azhar on Monday, Mahrasawy appreciated the role of Azhar graduates in achieving a notable academic progress in Indonesia.
Burhanduddin, for her part, asserted that outstanding position of Azhar in the hearts of Indonesians as several universities, institutes and schools in her country are seeking to teach the Azharite curricula.
She also extended thanks to Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed El Tayyib and the university president over their efforts to spread the moderate teachings of Islam.
