The second edition of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development came to an end Saturday, following five days of intensive consultations and debates between some of the best economic, political, social and technological minds in Africa and some of the continent’s government officials and leaders.
The forum, which was held virtually this year because of the Covid-19 pandemic, kicked off on March 1, with a speech delivered by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, in which he reasserted Egypt’s support to fellow African states as well as the need for finding African solutions to African problems.
Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry addressed the concluding session of the forum yesterday, saying that although the forum is held via video-conference, it received great attention at the highest levels.
This proves, he said, that African states realise the importance of participating in such important event.
This affirms, he said, that African countries and partners are convinced of the importance of the effective participation in the forum.
The foreign minister noted that the forum is a high-level African platform that enhances joint African action and co-operation with international partners through the exchange of opinions and expertise.
FM Shoukry added that Egypt’s struggle for the good of the African continent did not stop at its presidency of the African Union in 2019.
“It continued to work earnestly with African leaders so that the continent can overcome the challenges it is facing,” Minister Shoukry said.
He added that the Egyptian leadership always pays attention to the problems facing the countries of the continent.
“This derives from Egypt’s affiliation to the continent and its responsibilities towards it,” Shoukry said.
He said Egypt has full confidence in the ability of the African states and peoples to overcome the current crisis, thanking all partners who offered support to this edition of the forum.
