Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for African Affairs Ambassador Hamdi Loza revealed some details of the workshops that will be held during the upcoming Aswan Forum on June 21 and 22.
He said that the opening of the forum will include a recorded speech by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, President of the African Union and Senegalese President Macky Sall and chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki in addition to the speeches of a number of ministers participating in the forum.
Ambassador Loza added that the Aswan Forum is one of the most prominent platforms that interact with a large number of partners who contribute to the workshops.
The ambassador’s remarks came during a meeting with editors-in-chief and diplomatic editors, with the participation of Ambassador Ahmed Nihad Abdel Latif, Director of the Cairo International Centre for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding.
During the meeting, Ambassador Loza said that the forum will be attended by a number of senior officials, research centres and representatives of the private sector, who will have a special impact and greater effectiveness.
He also indicated that the Aswan Forum will be held under the auspices of President Sisi, noting that the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, and the President of the African Union, Sall, serve as ambassadors from the two organisations of their interest in the discussions.
Ambassador Loza noted that one of the main issues that will be discussed is strengthening the countries’ ability to withstand and confront the risks facing Africa.
He explained that Egypt has experience in building institutions and setting policies to avoid the effects of shocks such as the coronavirus pandemic, food and energy prices.
Loza also said that Africans admire the Egyptian experience and seek to benefit from it, especially in drawing inspiration from the experience of strengthening and building state institutions to confront the phenomenon of terrorism and help in the state’s ability to withstand.
Owned by Africa and supported by regional and international partners, the Aswan Forum is a high-level platform that brings together leaders of African countries, international and regional organisations, financial institutions, the private sector and civil society, along with visionaries, scholars, senior experts and practitioners, to engage in practical and context-specific discussions and present forward-looking insights into new threats and challenges.
