CAIRO – Assistant Foreign Minister for International and Regional Multilateral Economic Affairs Ambassador Ragy el-Etrieby Monday said that the close co-operation with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) should focus on the domains of housing, development and empowering women alongside supporting state’s efforts to implement “Decent Life” and “Noura” presidential initiatives.
This came during a meeting between the Egyptian diplomat and United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director of UNFPA Diene Keita to discuss the time-honored co-operation between Egypt and the fund since 1972, most notably launching the 11th Country Programme for Egypt (2023-2027) by the UNFPA in June 2023.
Etrieby, during the meeting which took place at the premises of the Foreign Ministry, welcomed the UN official’s first visit to Egypt.
Meanwhile, Keita said that the UNFPA supports the domains of housing, development and empowering women as well as the presidential initiatives of “Decent Life” and “Noura”, noting that she is looking forward to meeting minister concerned.
The two sides tackled the updates of the current UN discussions -which are taking place in New York – on housing and development along with Egypt’s pioneering role in championing the interests of the African and developing countries.
The meeting took up the exacerbated humanitarian crises in both the Gaza Stirp and Sudan.
Etrieby highlighted Egypt’s strenuous efforts at the humanitarian and relief levels regarding the crises in Gaza and Sudan.
The UN official hailed Egypt’s efforts in this regard, expressing eagerness for continuing coordination and joint action between Egypt and the UNFPA towards containing the fast-paced deterioration of the aforementioned crises.
