An Egyptian artist has turned scenes from an Egyptian series on Netflix into illustrations because she liked the characters.
Noura Owais, a Dubai-based Egyptian illustrator and photographer, chose some scenes from Paranormal and drew them as cartoons because she fell in love the series’ characters.
Directed by Amr Salama and based on the bestseller by Ahmed Khaled Tawfeeq, Paranormal takes us to its eponymous world with haematologist Dr Refaat Ismail, who becomes an unwilling go-to guy for paranormal investigations.
“It all started back in November right after Paranormal was released. I was super excited about the series because it is the first Egyptian series on Netflix,” Owais told The Egyptian Gazette.
“I loved Amr Salama’s previous work. The cast was interesting and the book itself is legendary,” she said.
Owais added that she fell in love with the series’ visuals and music and decided to draw illustrations for some of them.
“I started with such a moving scene between Dr Refaat and Maggie (his secret lover) whom he met again after years,” she said.
The illustrations went viral on social media and then Netflix came across them. The company contacted Owais and agreed with her to do an exclusive illustration series of the show.
“In a nutshell, it all started because I fell in love with a scene,” Owais said.
