Egyptian Armed Forces have stepped up efforts to ease the financial burden on families during the holy month of Ramadan.
The move comes under directives from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, to ensure food commodities are available at affordable prices.
The General Command ordered the Armed Forces Supply and Provision Authority to prepare nearly 1.5 million food packages. These packages are being sold to citizens at half price to help meet household needs across the country.
The food boxes were assembled and transported using fleets of equipped trucks and railway trains.
They were delivered to governorates within the jurisdictions of the field armies and military zones before being offered to the public at reduced prices. In a related effort, the Northern Military Zone launched the “Caravan of Goodness” initiative.
The campaign was carried out in co-operation with the Tahya Misr Fund and several civil society organisations. As part of the initiative, 50,000 food packages were distributed free of charge to the most vulnerable families in the governorates within the zone’s area of responsibility.
Officials say the initiative reflects the armed forces’ social responsibility and their continued commitment to supporting the Egyptian people, particularly during important occasions such as Ramadan.
