Chairman of the Arab Parliament (AP) Adel el Asoomi asserted that the challenging problem of Arab food security is a pivotal part of the Arab national security.
This came in Asoomi’s word at the inauguration of the 5th Congress of Speakers of Arab Councils and Parliaments organized by the Arab Parliament on Saturday where a document on Arab food security will be tackled.
Asoomi thanked President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for hosting the event for the second year in a row.
Arab food security is a life or death matter, he said, adding that it is part and parcel of Arab national security.
The AP has prepared a document on food security under the rubric “parliamentary vision to boost Arab food security”, he said.
The document highlighted the most prominent challenges facing Arab food security, he said, underling the importance for Arab countries to achieving self-sufficiency in food production.
He also urged Arab-African cooperation to confront religious contempt, asserting the importance of respecting freedom of religion and rejecting racism and bigotry.
He also urged Arab-African cooperation in face of any attempts to violate Arab and African values.
